It’s as though the waves cut out perfect cubes from the rock face and gently set them down just meters from where they once belonged. Above these perfect boulders is one of the most intensely atmospheric places we’ve ever climbed: Cascais in southern Portugal. Waves crash on the boulder beach beneath you and the roaring sounds of the ocean follow you up the climb. When a really big wave hits, a refreshing ocean spray will cool you down and urge you on. The ocean is never too far away…
