Hvar is an island of superlatives: it’s amongst the world’s top ten most beautiful islands, is Croatia’s sunniest and most luxurious island and has some of Croatia’s best sea cliff climbing. Expectations were high and it did not disappoint. Postcard pretty, it has masses of superb climbing with six distinctly different crags scattering the island. Highlights for us were Pokrivenik (you can use the closed camp site area for free up until Easter), Podstine (secluded sea crag with adventurous approach) and Šuplja Stina, also known as Cliffbase (“little Thailand” due to the number of routes right above the sea). Wherever you find yourself on Hvar, a hidden cove or beach is never far away. It’s easily reached by a cheap, fast car ferry from either Split or Drvenik.
