Central Croatia is full of national parks, both on the coast and in-land which are a must-see day trip if passing by. We found the most impressive waterfalls in Plitvice (the park of a thousand waterfalls), and most impressive canyon (and hence climbing, though very showy) in Paklenica. The entry fees to all parks are well worth paying; set up and facilities are superb and there’s been spring water available at each. And by paying, you’re helping protect the nature reserves that the Croatians are so proud of.
