Montenegro – a magical outdoor paradise
March 31, 2017 by Louise in hikes / scrambles

One snowy hike, two national parks and three canyons, all on one birthday. Everything in miniature Montenegro is so compact yet so rugged and wild, we were blown away. Driving in-land from the coast, towards the two biggest national parks Biogradska and Durmitor, dramatic views just kept on coming. The mountains get higher, the canyons deeper and rivers clearer the further north you go. Biogradska has pretty alpine lakes and 1600 hectares of virgin woodland. Durmitor has limestone canyons over a kilometre deep, dozens of glacial lakes and even more peaks over 2000m. A snowy wonderland, also in early spring.
High-altitude mountain ranges are not all Montenegro has to offer. On the coastline, you’ve also kilometres of sapphire beaches and the majestic Bay of Kotor, most definitely worth driving through.
