One of the few places one is allowed to climb in the Parco nazionale di Peneda-Gerês in Northern Portugal is the granite massif above the Santuario de Nossa Senhora da Peneda. Surrounded by lush forest on all sides, the small village of Peneda is as though frozen in time, with cobbled streets and an impressive “sanctuario” flanking the mountainside. If you like slabby multipitch climbs, this place shouldn’t be missed.
