We approached Riglos at dusk and could hardly believe our eyes… towering several hundred metres high, the Riglos massifs create an otherworldly silhouette against the night-sky. This is multipitch heaven! Some practicalities: make sure your water tank is filled up since the village fountains is 300m up a steep hill with no vehicle access. There’s a helpful lady at the Riglos Refugio with a copy of the latest guidebook (if you buy a coffee, she’ll let you photograph a few pages) and if you’re there over a weekend, expect van parties in the car park up top.
Riglos – silhouetted pillar cliffs
Hello!! Nice name we got:) My boyfriend and I are just now driving down to Spain in our van. We are also climbers and we are thinking about which crag would be nice to stay during New Year’s Eve. Do you have any suggestion? Would be nice to find a good spot with other climbers to celebrate with:) Cheers! Nice blog!
Hej Louise! how exciting you’re heading for Spain, you’ll be spoiled for choice as to places to climb! of all the climbing areas we visited, those with most other vans and climbers were Riglos (the car park up right, just before you enter the village), Etxauri (there’s a local climbing bar where you can apparently get topos), Valdehuesa and Siurana (maybe quieter now in winter though). If you want a romantic beach to yourselves with views over Costa Blanca and likely new year fireworks (plus loads of great climbing on Toix Oeste), head for Puerto Blanco in Calpe. that’s one of our favourite van spots so far. let us know where you end up and happy climbing!
